The Courtiers

Gooseford Farm has been in our family since 1957, when my dad, Clifford Courtier moved here with his parents. They farmed beef and sheep and my father and I continued to do so until 2015, when my two sons, Chris and George, decided they would like to come and work on the home farm too. As a family, we then decided to go into the dairy industry as we wanted to provide a great future for generations to come. My eldest son Chris, went to New Zealand to learn the ins and outs of dairy farming and a few years later, my youngest son George did the same. In New Zealand, they learned about the paddock grazing system, milking and how to properly care for dairy cows.

Whilst Chris was away, we focused on planning and organising everything that needed to go into making this project happen. When Chris returned in October of 2016, we were ready to go full speed ahead. The parlour was purchased, planning permission was approved and a milk contract was signed for. Which left us with one last thing to do, start the building. In April of 2017, we proudly milked our first cow in our brand new parlour.

As a family, we knew going into the dairy industry would likely be a bumpy road and as the saying, “every day is a school day”, it has proven to be very true. But, to see how far we have come and what we have accomplished as a family has made it all worth it. Our journey at Gooseford Farm has just begun, but we are excited to see what the future holds!
